Southlands Barn is a beautifully restored barn wedding venue set within 120 acres of working farmland in the heart of West Sussex countryside.
It brings together historic charm, modern comfort and warm family hospitality, creating a relaxed setting for couples who want their wedding to feel meaningful, joyful and completely their own.

To make sure your day starts beautifully, we offer two completely separate, on-site preparation spaces. This means you can both get ready with your favourite people at the same time, without any worry of bumping into each other before the ceremony!

The Cattle Barn is your dining space, with trestle or round tables, light oak cross-back chairs and ivory seat pads included. It creates an easy flow from ceremony to celebration, making use of the whole venue space that is exclusively yours.
EVENING
Dance the night away
As evening arrives, the Sussex Barn becomes your dancefloor, with space for a DJ or live band and a fully stocked bar close by. Add street food, a hog roast, grazing table or sparkler run beneath the Sussex night sky to finish the evening in style.
Getting Home
A shuttle for every guest
We run a dedicated shuttle service to local hotels and B&Bs at the end of the night, so no one is left figuring out a taxi. Routes and pickup times confirmed in your final planning meeting.

A few things couples often ask
Why are there different packages?
We have carefully created the three different packages to suit all budgets.
Essentials Package: for those who want a beautiful Sussex Barn wedding to suit all budgets.
The Southlands Signature: this is our most popular package as it includes everything you need a venue to supply to make your day special.
The Estate Package: throughout the years, couples have been asking for it, so we listened and here it is. A package where we take care of almost everything! Just about all that is left to organised are your table centrepiece’s and wedding day attire.
Can I amend my package:
You can most certainly add to your package, please see our “Might Likes” page in the brochure for any additional extras you may like.
If you remove any items from any of the packages there isn’t a reduction in fee.
How many guests can Southlands Barn accommodate?
We are now licensed for up to 150 guests for civil ceremonies. We can accommodate up to 170 total guests for dining and evening guests. We have no minimum guest numbers.
Can we choose our own caterers?
Essentials Package – Yes– this packages allows you to book any caterer from our recommended suppliers.
The Southlands Signature Package – Yes-this package you have the freedom to choose any caterer you would like, this doesn’t have to be from our recommended suppliers.
The Estate Package – No– This package is really special and it is important to us to have complete confidence in full guest experience from the initial booking to the final goodbye. The food is provided by our sister company Terra Restaurant at Tottington Manor, an award-winning AA Rosette restaurant.
Do you offer accommodation on-site?
We do not have any accommodation on-site, but there are many other options for guests to stay locally. Please click here for details.
However, we can provide a shuttle bus service to local accommodation which is included in the Southlands Signature and the Estate Package.
What is included in the end of evening Shuttle Bus service?
We can provide shuttle service at the end of the wedding evening for guests staying at local accommodation.
Our shuttle buses only operate within a 15 min drive time from Southlands Barn, otherwise we can’t do many shuttle runs.
Your guests fill in the Shuttle Request Form with their names, accommodation and contact details and we will get back to them to confirm whether there accommodation is within our travel range.
Shuttle requests must be submitted two weeks prior to your wedding date.
Shuttle Bus routes and timings are at the discretion of Southlands Barn.
Can we get ready on-site?
We have our Prepping parlour, which can accommodate up to 8 guests to get ready on the morning of your wedding. The pool table room is also an additional space that can also be used to get ready in.
Can we have glamping tents on site?
We no longer offer camping on-site due to our new permit requirements.
Can you bring your own alcohol?
No, one of our only requirement for weddings at the barn is for us to supply the alcohol, but we can bespoke the packages to any budget, though most couples choose one of our packages which is the best value for your wedding day.
Bar prices are in line with pubs, not hotels.
Can we have live music and Bands?
Definitely! Live music takes place in our Sussex Barn which is located next to the bar. Only hire on Mondays/Tuesdays (Excluding Bank Holidays) we cannot allow live music, but you can have approved DJ’s on our list (DJ Keen, Lumimix and theDJ.co.uk). You can use our own sound system to play your own playlist or have a silent disco for these days. Unfortunately, only background music is permitted in the Cattle Barn.
Can we use our own music?
Yes, we have a system throughout the venue to play your own music. We can plug in your phone directly to have your own Spotify playlists during the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception. Or make your Spotify playlist open, and we can play this through onsite tablet. Please note, we only can play Spotify through our tablet.
Is the venue licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, Southlands Barn is fully licensed for civil ceremonies. You can book your registrar here; Book a registrar – West Sussex County Council or email ceremonies@westsussex.gov.uk
You can choose a celebrant for a wonderful, personalized ceremony. We recommend Gayle https://sunflowercelebrations.uk/
Do I have to have civil ceremony on-site?
We welcome all couples to have their ceremony on-site as we are fully licensed for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. If you wish to marry off-site, then the venue will still be exclusively yours for the wedding reception on-site, however, we are fully licensed to conduct both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies. If you wish to get married offsite, then the venue package hire will remain the same, and the venue will be exclusively yours, all day.
Who sets up my decór on the day of my event?
We can assist with setting up any additional decor you bring into the venue, but you are responsible for removing all personal belongings at the end of your wedding.
Do you provide staff for the day?
We have 4 staff on site for the wedding day, including a wedding co-ordinator, to run the bar and assist as needed. This is covered in your venue hire. If your chosen caterer does not include waitering staff, we may be able to provide additional staff for an additional charge. This is on a case-by case basis.
Do you provide glassware?
Yes, we provide all glassware so make sure this is not included in your caterer’s quote.
Who do you recommend for Tableware?
We recommend Co-Ordination Event Hire who have an extensive selection of fine bone China, cutlery and colourful glassware. www.co-ordination.net
Do you have a master of the ceremony?
In our Southlands Signature and The Estate Packages, our owner Phil is included to perform MOC duties on your wedding day to make the day run as smoothly as possible. Those who choose the Basic Package can add a Phil for a fee.
Can we bring our dogs?
We will allow dogs onsite as long as they are leashed and don’t like to chase our cattle as a hobby. We have had many dogs as ring-bearers for our wedding at the barn.
What are your license times?
Live music and DJ need to be off by 11 pm and the bar closes are 11 pm. We cannot extend these times for any reason. We give plenty of notice of the bar closing so guests can purchase drinks and consume them on-site after 11 pm. All guests just need to be off-site by midnight.
Is there parking on site?
We have 70 car bays on hard standings.
Between May and September guests park in the field next to the barn where we can accommodate up to 100 cars.
Can we leave cars overnight after an event?
Yes, cars can be left overnight and collected by 10am the following morning. Please note our car park has CCTV, however we take no responsibility for vehicles parked on Southlands Farm.
Where is the nearest train station?
Pulborough train station is 7 minutes away from us.
Do you have recommended suppliers, and do we have to use them?
We do a fabulous list of recommended vendors and they have been chosen as they are experts in their fields and they are trusted. Depending on which package you have chosen depends on whether you have to use them on not:
Essentials Package: Caterers and Evening Entertainment (live Music and DJ’s) must be selected from our recommended suppliers list.
Southlands Signature Package: You are free to choose any supplier you like, however we strongly recommend vendors from our list as they are experts in their chosen field and are reliable and trusted.
The Estate Package: Catering is supplied by our other venue, Tottington Manor, where our AA Rosette Award Winning restaurant TERRA will be catering. Please note: included in this package is catering and DJ.
Can we have confetti?
Yes, we just ask that it is biodegradable. We highly suggest Flutter Darlings confetti which makes for those amazing photos!
Do you have any additional decor we can use?
We have a large tree stump that makes a great cake stand. We sometimes have other bits and bobs left from previous weddings, so ask us if there is anything specific you need!
Do you allow fireworks, fire pits, or sparklers?
As we are working Farm, we cannot allow Fireworks or sky lanterns, however we have our own fire pits in the courtyard and sparklers are very welcome! We have a sand bucket that you can use for the sparklers.
Do you allow real candles?
Yes we do, we just require then to be in containers, glass for example with a base so the candle wax does not drip onto the tables or floor.
Do you allow garden games and bouncy castle hire/Rodeo Bulls?
Yes, we have ample space for such additions. Bouncy castles and Rodeo Bulls can fit inside the Cattle Barn for the evening or outside (weather dependant).
Do you provide tables and chairs?
Depending on your package depends on which type of table is included:
Essentials Package: Our Rustic Trestle Tables are included with Light Oak Cross-back Chairs with Ivory Pads.
6ft round Tables available for hire with white table cloths for £20 per table.
Southlands Signature Package: Both our Rustic Trestles and 6ft Rounds with white table cloths along with our Light Oak Cross-back Chairs with Ivory Pads are included in this package.
The Estate Package: Both our Rustic Trestles and 6ft Rounds with white table cloths along with our Light Oak Cross-back Chairs with Ivory Pads are included in this package.

What are the table measurements?
- Round tables are 6ft Wide and 2.5ft tall, if you are hiring different table cloths they require a 120” (drops half way down the table) or 130” (drops to the floor) tablecloths.
- The 4 long tables for the head table are 5.11ft Long, 2.3 ft Wide, 2.5ft high.
- Rustic Trestle tables are 6ft length, 3ft wide and 2.5 ft tall.
Do you have additional tables for décor, evening food etc?
Yes, we have 8 Rustic Trestle tables that are 10ft Long, 2.2ft Wide and 2.4ft High. These are not suitable for eating from during your wedding breakfast.
Perfect for buffet and gift tables.
Is there a caterer charge?
Only for caterers not on our recommended suppliers list. There is a £500 caterer venue fee and £250 Refundable Security deposit (repayable once the kitchen is left in the same condition as it was hired out in) for use of the kitchen/electrical/gas charge and cleaning maintenance. This is for the caterer to pay, not the couple. We strongly recommend asking your caterer to get in touch with us before supplying a final quote so we can run through the T+C’s and explain the kitchen equipment we have for them to use.
Is tea and Coffee included?
Tea and coffee is not included in our drinks packages. Tea and coffee can be purchased at the bar. If you wish for a tea and coffee station, this can be arranged by us for a small fee or speak with your caterer.
