Southlands Barn is a beautifully restored barn wedding venue set within 120 acres of working farmland in the heart of West Sussex countryside.

A few things couples often ask
Why are there different packages?
We have carefully created the three different packages to suit all budgets.
Essentials Package: for those who want a beautiful Sussex Barn wedding to suit all budgets.
The Southlands Signature: this is our most popular package as it includes everything you need a venue to supply to make your day special.
The Estate Package: throughout the years, couples have been asking for it, so we listened and here it is. A package where we take care of almost everything! Just about all that is left to organised are your table centrepiece’s and wedding day attire.
Can I amend my package:
You can most certainly add to your package, please see our “Might Likes” for any additional extras you may like.
If you remove any items from any of the packages there isn’t a reduction in fee.
How many guests can Southlands Barn accommodate?
We are now licensed for up to 150 guests for civil ceremonies. We can accommodate up to 170 total guests for dining and evening guests. We have no minimum guest numbers.
Can we choose our own caterers?
Essentials Package – Yes– this packages allows you to book any caterer from our recommended suppliers.
The Southlands Signature Package – Yes-this package you have the freedom to choose any caterer you would like, this doesn’t have to be from our recommended suppliers.
The Estate Package – No– This package is really special and it is important to us to have complete confidence in full guest experience from the initial booking to the final goodbye. The food is provided by our sister company Terra Restaurant at Tottington Manor, an award-winning AA Rosette restaurant.
Do you offer accommodation on-site?
While we don’t have accommodation on-site, we do offer our very own Southlands Shuttle Buses—our complimentary end-of-night Wedding Wheels—to transport your guests safely and comfortably to local accommodation.
There are plenty of fantastic hotels, B&Bs and guest houses just a short drive from the venue, giving your guests a range of options to suit every budget.
The Southlands Shuttle Buses are included with our Southlands Signature and Estate Package, helping everyone relax and enjoy the celebrations without worrying about the journey home.
What is included in the end of evening Shuttle Bus service?
We can provide shuttle service at the end of the wedding evening for guests staying at local accommodation.
Our shuttle buses only operate within a 15 min drive time from Southlands Barn, otherwise we can’t do many shuttle runs.
Your guests fill in the Shuttle Request Form with their names, accommodation and contact details and we will get back to them to confirm whether there accommodation is within our travel range.
Shuttle requests must be submitted two weeks prior to your wedding date.
Shuttle Bus routes and timings are at the discretion of Southlands Barn.
Can we get ready on-site?
Yes – and even better, you get not one, but TWO getting-ready spaces!
Start your wedding morning in our beautiful Prepping Parlour, a light and relaxing space that comfortably accommodates up to eight people while you enjoy hair, makeup and those all-important pre-wedding moments.
Need a little more room? No problem! You’ll also have access to our Pool Table Room, giving your wedding party a second dedicated space to spread out, get ready in comfort, and enjoy the excitement together.
With two exclusive getting-ready areas and access from 7:00am on your wedding day, there’s plenty of space and time for everyone to relax before the celebrations begin.
Can we have glamping tents on site?
Looking for a glamping experience? You’re in luck! Our neighbours offer a fantastic glamping site just moments from Southlands Barn, giving your guests the perfect opportunity to stay close to the venue and enjoy the celebrations without travelling far.
For guests who prefer more traditional accommodation, there are also a variety of nearby hotels, B&Bs and guest houses to suit all budgets. To round off the evening, our Southlands Shuttle Buses—our complimentary end-of-night Wedding Wheels—can transport guests to local accommodation as part of our Southlands Signature and Estate Package.
We’re always happy to recommend the best local accommodation options for you and your guests.
Can you bring your own alcohol?
We look after all the drinks at Southlands Barn, ensuring a seamless service from your arrival right through to the last dance.
Whether you’re looking for a simple drinks package or something a little more bespoke, we’ll work with you to create the perfect option to suit your wedding and your budget. Most couples choose one of our carefully designed drinks packages, which offer fantastic value and are tailored to complement your day.
Our bar is fully stocked with a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks, with pub-style pricing rather than hotel prices, so your guests can enjoy great drinks at great value throughout the celebration.
Can we have live music and Bands?
Definitely! Live music takes place in our Sussex Barn which is located next to the bar. Only hire on Mondays/Tuesdays (Excluding Bank Holidays) we cannot allow live music, but you can have approved DJ’s on our list (DJ Keen, Lumimix and theDJ.co.uk). You can use our own sound system to play your own playlist or have a silent disco for these days. Unfortunately, only background music is permitted in the Cattle Barn.
Can we use our own music?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to personalise your day with your own music from start to finish.
Our in-house sound system operates throughout the venue, so you can create the perfect soundtrack for your ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.
You can:
- Connect your phone directly to our sound system to play your own Spotify playlists.
- Share a public Spotify playlist with us in advance, and we’ll play it through our on-site tablet for you.
Whether it’s your aisle song, background music over dinner or your favourite feel-good tunes, we’ll make sure your chosen soundtrack sets the perfect atmosphere throughout your day.

Is the venue licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, Southlands Barn is fully licensed for civil ceremonies. You can book your registrar here; Book a registrar – West Sussex County Council or email ceremonies@westsussex.gov.uk

Do I have to have civil ceremony on-site?
Not at all! The choice is completely yours.
Southlands Barn is fully licensed for both indoor and outdoor civil ceremonies, so you can enjoy your entire wedding day in one beautiful location if you wish.
If you’ve always dreamed of getting married in a church or another ceremony venue, you’re more than welcome to do so. You’ll still enjoy exclusive use of Southlands Barn for your wedding reception, and your venue hire remains the same, giving you full access to the venue for the day.
Whether you choose to say “I do” with us or elsewhere, we’ll be ready to welcome you and your guests for an unforgettable celebration.
Who sets up my decór on the day of my event?
You won’t be setting up on your wedding day—and that’s exactly how it should be!
Every one of our wedding packages—Essentials, Southlands Signature, and The Estate Package—includes exclusive access to the venue the day before your wedding for your décor set-up.
Take your time styling the barns exactly as you’ve imagined, whether you’re adding personal touches yourself or working with your suppliers. Then head home, relax, and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep knowing your venue is beautifully set and ready for your big day.
No early-morning decorating. No last-minute rushing. No unnecessary wedding-day stress.
Just arrive on the morning of your wedding, soak up the excitement, and let the celebrations begin.
Do you provide staff for the day?
Absolutely! Our experienced team is on hand throughout your wedding day, so you can relax and enjoy every moment.
Your venue hire includes four dedicated members of the Southlands Barn team, including your Wedding Day Coordinator, who will oversee the smooth running of your day, coordinate with your suppliers, support you and your guests, and ensure everything runs seamlessly behind the scenes.
Our team also manages the bar service and is always on hand to assist wherever needed, giving you complete peace of mind from start to finish.
If your chosen caterer doesn’t provide waiting staff, we may also be able to supply additional front-of-house staff for your wedding. This can be arranged on a case-by-case basis for an additional charge—just speak to our team and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements.
Do you provide glassware?
Yes, we provide all glassware so make sure this is not included in your caterer’s quote.
Who do you recommend for Tableware?
We recommend Co-Ordination Event Hire who have an extensive selection of fine bone China, cutlery and colourful glassware. www.co-ordination.net
Do you have a master of the ceremony?
Yes – and it’s one of the things our couples love most!
Our owner, Phil, is an experienced Master of Ceremonies and is included with both our Southlands Signature and Estate Package.
Professional, personable and very funny (just ask him! 😉), Phil knows exactly how to strike the perfect balance between keeping your day running seamlessly and making sure everyone has a fantastic time.
From welcoming your guests and making key announcements to liaising with suppliers and keeping everything on schedule, Phil takes care of all the behind-the-scenes coordination so you can simply relax and enjoy every moment.
If you’ve chosen our Essentials Package, you can also add Phil as your Master of Ceremonies for an additional fee, subject to availability.
Having a dedicated Master of Ceremonies means you don’t have to rely on a friend or family member to keep the day on track—everyone gets to relax and celebrate together while Phil ensures everything runs smoothly from “I do” to the last dance… with plenty of laughs along the way!
Can we bring our dogs?
Of course—you can! We love welcoming four-legged guests to Southlands Barn! 🐾
We’ve had lots of wonderful wedding dogs over the years, from adorable ring bearers to honorary guests, and they always steal the show.
For everyone’s safety (especially our resident cattle!), we simply ask that dogs remain on a lead while they’re at the venue and that they’re happy around livestock.
Whether they’re walking you down the aisle, posing for photos or greeting your guests with a wagging tail, we’re always delighted to help make your furry family member part of your special day.
What are your license times?
Our licence is designed to give you a full day of celebrations, right through to the last dance.
- 🍻 The bar closes at 11:00pm, with plenty of notice given beforehand so guests have time to purchase their final drinks.
- 🎶 Live music and DJs finish at 11:00pm, allowing everyone to enjoy one last dance before the evening draws to a close.
- 🥂 Guests are welcome to finish any drinks they’ve already purchased after the bar has closed.
- 🚍 All guests are asked to depart the venue by 12:00 midnight.
To help everyone get home safely, our complimentary Southlands Shuttle Buses (included with the Southlands Signature and Estate Package) are ready to transport guests to local accommodation at the end of the evening.
Our licence times are fixed and cannot be extended, helping us maintain a great relationship with our neighbours while ensuring every couple enjoys an unforgettable celebration.
Is there parking on site?
Yes – and there’s plenty of it!
We have 70 hard-standing parking spaces available on-site, providing convenient parking for your guests all year round.
During the summer months (May to September), we also open our adjacent grass parking area, increasing our capacity to up to 150 vehicles.
Whether your wedding is an intimate celebration or a larger gathering, there’s ample parking just a short walk from the barns, making it easy for your guests to arrive and enjoy your special day.
Can we leave cars overnight after an event?
Of course! If you’d rather leave your car overnight, you’re very welcome to do so.
Vehicles can be collected by 10:00am the following morning, giving you and your guests the freedom to relax and enjoy the celebrations without worrying about driving home.
For added peace of mind, our car park is covered by CCTV. While every vehicle is left at the owner’s risk and Southlands Farm cannot accept responsibility for vehicles or their contents, many couples and guests choose to leave their cars overnight and collect them the next morning.
Where is the nearest train station?
Pulborough train station is 7 minutes away from us.
Do you have recommended suppliers, and do we have to use them?
Yes! We’ve carefully curated a list of trusted, experienced suppliers who know Southlands Barn inside and out. From photographers and florists to caterers, musicians and DJs, every supplier on our recommended list has been chosen because they consistently deliver exceptional service and help create unforgettable weddings.
Whether you choose from our recommendations or bring your own suppliers depends on your package:
Essentials Package
To ensure everything runs smoothly, catering and evening entertainment (live bands and DJs) must be selected from our recommended suppliers list. For all other suppliers, you’re free to choose whoever you like.
Southlands Signature Package
You have complete freedom to choose all of your own suppliers. That said, we highly recommend our trusted supplier list—they’re experts in their field, know the venue well, and have a proven track record of delivering amazing weddings.
The Estate Package
Everything has been designed to make wedding planning effortless. Your catering is included and provided by our sister venue, Tottington Manor, with food prepared by their AA Rosette-awarded restaurant, TERRA. Your DJ is also included, leaving you with even less to organise.
Whichever package you choose, we’re always happy to share our recommendations and help you find the perfect team to bring your wedding vision to life.

These moments create incredible energy, unforgettable memories and some of the most spectacular photographs of your wedding day.
The only thing we ask is that all confetti is biodegradable, helping us protect our beautiful countryside setting.
For the ultimate confetti experience, we highly recommend Flutter Darlings Confetti, whose confetti creates the most beautiful photos and adds that extra touch of magic to your celebration.
Do you have any additional decor we can use?
We have a large tree stump that makes a great cake stand. We sometimes have other bits and bobs left from previous weddings, so ask us if there is anything specific you need!
Do you allow fireworks, fire pits, or sparklers?
We love creating magical evening moments! ✨
While fireworks and sky lanterns aren’t permitted due to us being a working farm, there are still plenty of ways to add that wow factor to your evening.
🔥 Our beautiful courtyard fire pits are ready for you and your guests to gather around as the sun goes down—perfect for cosy conversations, toasting marshmallows (if you choose!) and creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
✨ Sparklers are absolutely welcome! They make for some truly stunning evening photographs, and we provide a sand bucket for safe disposal once the sparkler moment is over.
From glowing fire pits to sparkling photo opportunities, we’ll help you create an unforgettable end to your wedding day.
Do you allow real candles?
Yes, we do! 🕯️
Nothing creates a warm, romantic atmosphere quite like the glow of real candles, and you’re very welcome to include them as part of your décor.
For everyone’s safety, we simply ask that all real candles are enclosed in a suitable container, such as a glass hurricane or lantern, and have a solid base to catch any dripping wax and protect our tables and floors.
Whether you’re creating a soft, candlelit aisle or adding a cosy glow to your reception tables, real candles are a beautiful way to enhance the ambience of your wedding at Southlands Barn.
Do you allow garden games and bouncy castle hire/Rodeo Bulls?
Absolutely—we love it when couples add a little extra fun to their wedding day!
There’s plenty of space at Southlands Barn for garden games, making them a fantastic way to entertain guests during your drinks reception and keep everyone of all ages smiling.
Looking for something a little more adventurous? Bouncy castles and rodeo bulls are welcome too! Depending on the weather, they can be set up outside or moved inside our spacious Cattle Barn for the evening, so the fun can continue whatever the forecast.
Whether you’re planning giant garden games, a bucking rodeo bull or a surprise inflatable for your guests, we’re all for creating a wedding that’s uniquely yours.

Is there a caterer charge?
If you choose one of our recommended caterers, there is no additional venue fee—they know Southlands Barn inside and out, are familiar with our facilities, and work seamlessly with our team to deliver an exceptional wedding day.
If you choose a caterer who isn’t on our recommended suppliers list, a £500 caterer venue fee applies, along with a £250 refundable security deposit. The deposit is returned once the kitchen has been inspected and left in the same condition it was provided.
These charges are payable by the caterer, not the couple, and cover the use of our commercial kitchen, utilities (including gas and electricity), and cleaning and maintenance.
We strongly recommend that any caterer not already familiar with Southlands Barn contacts us before providing their final quotation. We’ll be happy to talk them through our terms and conditions, explain the kitchen facilities available, and answer any questions to ensure everything runs smoothly on your wedding day.
Is tea and Coffee included?
Tea and coffee aren’t included as standard in our drinks packages, but there are plenty of options to make sure your guests can enjoy a hot drink if they’d like one.
☕ Tea and coffee are available to purchase from our bar throughout your wedding day and evening.
Looking to treat your guests? You can also add unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate for just £5 per person—a popular option, especially for autumn and winter weddings.
Can I ride the bulls and cows? 🐂
We get asked this more often than you’d think… but the answer is no! 😄
Our Highland cattle are part of the Southlands family and are happiest doing what they do best—grazing in the fields, posing for wedding photos and generally stealing the spotlight.
If you’re after a ride, we’d recommend hiring a rodeo bull instead. It provides all the laughs without upsetting the locals!
So, the official Southlands ruling is:
- 🤠 Mechanical rodeo bull? Absolutely!
- 🐂 Our real Highland bulls and cows? They’ll politely decline.
They’ll happily photobomb your wedding pictures, but they’d much rather keep all four hooves firmly on the ground!
